Flooded homes in Cockermouth may need brand new kitchens Hundreds of homes devastated by recent floods may have to install completely new kitchens and bathrooms.Hundreds of homes and businesses in a Cumbrian town may have to get brand new kitchens and bathrooms after the interior of their properties were destroyed by recent floods.

Cockermouth was one of the towns that was worst hit by last week's record rainfall and severe gales, which reached up to 95mph, but the Met office has warned that there is to be more heavy rain over the next few days.

It said that an additional 50mm to 75mm of rain is expected over Cumbria, Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders by Wednesday morning, and up to 100 mm over the Cumbrian Fells.

Paul Davies, chief hydrometeorologist for the Met Office and the Environment Agency, said: "We are not expecting the same volumes of rainfall as last week and do not expect there to be the same widespread property flooding.

"We are concerned about the ongoing risk to infrastructure, particularly bridges, and the possible risk to life in the area as the river flows increase."
