Carlomar Daoana, writing for MB.com, said that it used to be that architects and designers would take pains in walling off the kitchen, with the living room being the king of the interior.

However, as spaces become smaller and more intimate, the walls separating areas with specific use and distinction are starting to vanish.

"Now a bedroom may have a view of the kitchen; the dining area may be connected with the living room; and the living room, through the help of key furniture such as a sofa bed, may be turned into a bedroom at night," she added.

Ms Daoana went on to say that because of this, design focus has been distributed across all areas of the house, and now that the kitchen is in full view, it is no longer being kept as a "staid and clinical" space.

According to Steve Lees, writing for the Western Mail, the upcoming bank holiday will be an ideal time for people to think about kitchen quotes.
