Expert: Sticking doors should be replaced

Expert: Sticking doors should be replacedDoors can expand in high temperatures, causing sticking.Home improvement fans have been told to use a reputable and skilled fitter when installing double glazing in order to avoid sticking windows and doors.

Jeff Howell, a DIY expert writing for the Daily Telegraph, was responding to a reader's letter who said that their doors were hard to open when the weather is hot.

"PVC-U has a very high coefficient of thermal expansion. PVC-U doors and windows have adjustable hinges, catches and locks to allow for this expansion and contraction," he stated.

Mr Howell went on to say that in this case, either the installer was not very skilled at making the required adjustments or, more likely, the doors and frames were manufactured with insufficient clearance in the first place.

David Grievson, managing director of Puddlestone, recently said that garden offices, which might use cheap double glazing, are becoming more popular as people look to expand into their green spaces.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19870684-ADNFCR
