Expert: Biggest upkeep of uPVC is keeping it cleanCheap double glazing is easy to look after; all it needs is to be kept clean.People considering installing cheap double glazing in their property have been told that the only upkeep required is the occasional wash.

Jeff Howell, a DIY expert was replying to a letter on his website which was querying whether uPVC needs painting in order to make it last longer.

"The biggest maintenance requirement for uPVC products is to keep them clean. The plastic surfaces seem to attract dust and pollutants. So all uPVC windows and roofline products should be washed with detergent at least once a year - more frequently in towns or areas close to the sea," he added.

Mr Howell went on to say that all plastics will last longer if they are painted, with some firms specialising in products for weathered uPVC windows.

Recently, writing for the Daily Telegraph, the DIY expert stated that people getting cheap double glazing should ensure that their new windows conform to quality benchmarks.
