A report on Whathouse.co.uk looked at the case of new homes, which are being built with greater sustainable and energy efficient building regulations.

"Because most homes in this country were built decades ago, it is projected that thousands each year will require extra insulation, new windows and other energy-saving features in order to fight climate change and fuel poverty," it said.

Jason Colmer, sales director at Larkfleet Homes, added that the potential of paying low energy bills is attractive to buyers, while the benefit of guarantees and quality assurance with new energy-efficient products is also important.

This weekend, an Australian property in River St Homes will be showing off its energy-efficient features, including double-glazed windows and water recycling technology, which catches and stores rain which falls on its roof.
