A church hall has been enjoying the energy-saving benefits of double glazing for four years, but the church itself is soon to reduce its carbon footprint too through the installation of a new lighting system.Four years ago St Cuthbert's Church Hall in Northumberland had double glazing fitted, and now the church itself has become more energy efficient through the installation of a new lighting system. The church, which is located in the coastal town of Blyth, now has a new energy-saving lighting system, thanks, in part, to a £5,000 donation from the north-east mining and development company Banks Group, the Blyth Journal reports. It was also Banks that granted over £11,000 to pay for double glazing to be installed in the adjacent church hall four years ago.The new lighting system is expected to cut the church's utility bills by as much as 60 per cent, which works out as a saving of hundreds of pounds each year.Homeowners who want to save money on their utility bills and do their bit to cut the UK's carbon footprint should consider installing double glazing as, according to the Energy Saving Trust, this can save around £135 and 720kg of carbon dioxide a year.Posted by Mark Moore
