Energy efficient double glazing 'on the rise'

Energy efficient home improvements are becoming more popular.Home improvements are seeing a move towards ecology, such as the installation of energy saving double-glazed windows, according to a home improvements expert.Homeowners are increasingly concerned with making ecological home improvements, such as installing double glazing, according to TV presenter Michael Holmes.

Talking at the National Home Improvement Show, the co-presenter of Channel Five's I Own Britain's Best Home, said: "Not surprisingly, people are more concerned about running costs and the environment."

He said that lots of people are now renovating and making changes that not only benefit the home but the environment too.

Mr Holmes noted that there was an increased interest in using ground source heat pumps, which extract heat from the ground outside to warm water for radiators or underfloor heating.

"It is more energy efficient than using a boiler," he added.

In August the UK Green Building Council announced how to implement the government's £5 billion pay as you save scheme, which would see households offered low-interest loans of up to £10,000 to pay for energy efficient improvements.

The loans would be repaid over 25 years using the savings made on energy bills.
