Installing energy saving equipment, such as double glazing, will reduce living costs and increase the value of a house, according to the Energy Saving Trust.Investing in energy efficiency equipment such as double glazing improves the value of a property and also reduces living costs, according to Harry Mayers, head of programme delivery for the Energy Saving Trust. His comments followed news last week that homeowners in Scotland will be able to take out loans of up to £10,000, interest-free, as part of the government's attempts to slash carbon emissions.Mr Mayers said that, given these are interest-free loans, homeowners will only pay back what they borrow. "Often the savings you achieve will pretty much meet the costs of the loan - or certainly offset it - so while you're paying back the loan you're almost cash neutral in many cases," he added.Households will be able to borrow between £500 and £10,000 to fund measures such as insulation improvement, new boilers and renewable energy systems as part of the Energy Efficiency Action Plan. It aims to reduce Scotland's CO2 emissions by 42 per cent by 2020, is estimated to cost an average of £7,000 per house. The Energy Saving Trust also recommends installing Energy Saving Recommended double glazing as it can cut heat loss through windows by half.Written by Liam Cass.
