Energy companies should past pass profits back to those struggling with utility bills, according to charity Family Action.Even those that have double glazing can struggle with their energy bills and they should benefit from the profits that energy companies have recently announced, according to Family Action.Helen Dent, chief executive of Family Action, said that the charity has had an increasing number of calls from low-income families about the "stark choices" they face on household spending."It is vital that energy companies are prompt in passing more of their profits back to this vulnerable group, particularly those on pre-payment meters," she said. Ms Dent went on to say: "It is scandalous that the poorest families already effectively pay a premium for their fuel and other goods and services because their lack of a bank account means they cannot use direct debit and more favourable payment methods."Her comments follow reports that energy prices are likely to soar in the next two years. Centrica - parent company to British Gas - confirmed that wholesale prices will increase from around 31p to 49p in winter 2010-11, and 57p the following winter. Meanwhile, British Gas and Scottish and Southern Energy have both reported healthy profits in the last few days.Written by Glen Derbyshire.
