Eco-hospital with double glazing to be built in France

The €202 million (£183 million) hospital is to be built by three Bouygues Construction subsidiaries (DV Construction, GFC Construction and GTB Construction) in the city of Orelans.

It will be the first regional hospital in the country with a High Environmental Quality label, which denotes that buildings are environmentally friendly.

Wood heating, deep geothermal and solar power are to be used to provide the hospital with energy, which all cut CO2 emissions, and it will be built to include external thermal insulation, double glazing windows and LED lights, which use less energy than standard light bulbs.

The foundation stone of the building was laid at the end of November and the build is expected to be completed over the next five years, with the first patients to be admitted in 2015.

Targets have been set by the British government to reduce UK carbon emissions by 34 per cent of 1990 levels by the year 2020. It is urging homeowners to help to achieve this by making energy saving home improvements, such as installing double glazing.ADNFCR-2394-ID-19493454-ADNFCR
