Plans for the development were originally rejected by Cheltenham Borough Council but since then the Planning Inspectorate, a government agency based in Bristol, has revoked the rejection, the Gloucester Echo reported.

According to the newspaper, the development will feature aluminium double-glazing, glass balustrades and screens and a green roof - which will be covered with plants and soil.

Double glazing reduces heat loss through windows by half, therefore reducing energy use and the negative effects excess energy use has on the environment.

It is not yet known when work will start on the scheme at Moat Corner, in Spring Lane.

Councillors on the planning committee had initially turned the project down on the grounds that it was, "too big, too bulky and too visually prominent", the newspaper reported.

The inspectorate's report stated that the use of Cotswold stone for the ground floor and the lightness of the recessed double glazing of the upper floor would result in "a building that would sit lightly in its semi-rural setting".
