Eco-home showcased in Barnsley

Property showcases carbon efficiencyInspace has turned a semi-detached family home into a carbon efficient property.A leading construction and housing group is showcasing a new energy-efficient home, it has been reported.

Willmott Dixon's social housing group Inspace has turned a 1930s semi-detached family home in Barnsley into a case study to monitor low carbon thermal efficiency.

The property has been used to showcase how ageing housing stock can be turned more energy-efficient.

It is estimated that the installation of double glazing, cavity wall insulation and internal insulation could save £477 of the property's annual gas bills.

Other home improvements such as a new gas boiler, low energy light bulbs and a low energy mechanical ventilation system can further reduce carbon emissions on the property.

Brendan Ritche, Inspace managing director for innovation and sustainability, said: "Tackling energy efficiency on older housing stock will become a major priority and companies like Inspace will have to show how this can be done affordably."

Environmentalist Paul Lavelle and his partner Sara Anton recently spent £2 million turning their luxury six-bedroom property into an eco-home with the carbon footprint of a two-bedroom flat, the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard reported.
