Eco-friendly measures 'as attractive as a new kitchen'

Homes with solar panels are attractive to property buyers, it has been claimedNew research has suggested that eco-friendly measures are as attractive to prospective property buyers as traditional home improvements.Homeowners could boost the saleability of their property by adding eco-friendly measures to it, according to a new study.

The study by the Energy Saving Trust found that over a third of Brits would be happy to pay more for a house which features renewable technology like solar panels or a wind turbine.

Over half of respondents also wanted to know if their own homes are suitable for the technology.

Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust, said it is evident such measures could boost the value of a home.

He added that they could be "as attractive to house hunters as a new kitchen or solid wood floors".

The Guardian and filmmaker Franny Armstrong recently launched the 10:10 campaign, which is calling on people to commit to reducing their carbon footprint by ten per cent by the end of 2010.
