Eco-friendly Barnet homes boast top double glazing

Eco-friendly Barnet homes boast top double glazing A London borough is to invest in top double glazing as it looks to reduce home carbon emissions.

The Borough of Barnet will soon be home to a number of eco-friendly homes, boasting state-of-the-art double glazing and a host of additional energy saving measures.

Through a new project being rolled out by Barnet Homes, 20 existing properties will be transformed into Eco Flats, making Churchmead Close the first eco-estate in the whole of the London borough.

In addition to cutting carbon emissions from the residences, it is estimated that the double glazing, as well as the high-efficiency gas boilers and enhanced insulation, will help homeowners save as much as £245 a year on their fuel bills.

Announcing the launch of the project, Barnet Homes deputy chief executive Derek Rust said: "Our eco home has shown us that major energy savings can be achieved through often quite simple measures, and we're looking forward to translating this to a much larger scale with the Eco Flats project."

At the same time, the government is launching a major £17 million scheme that will see the construction of 87 social housing projects across the UK in a bid to test out low carbon technologies.
