Double glazing with condensation: No need to replace whole frame

Double glazing with condensation: No need to replace whole frameIf a double glazing window has condensation, there is no need to replace the whole frame, just the affected unit, according to an online builders' guide.Homeowners worried about the cost of replacing a double glazing window that has condensation inside need not worry, according to an online builders' guide, as only the affected frame needs to be replaced.

Double glazing units contain silica gel crystals to absorb the moisture that enters the frames when they are first sealed but if condensation still forms this could indicate that the sealant has broken, according to a recent Yell Builders' Guide on website Yell.com.

"If it's a composite window, you just need to replace the affected unit. A glazing repair specialist will be able to do that for you," the guide explained.

It goes on to suggest, however, that getting a double glazing quote and replacing all of the windows could be a good investment as higher quality glass and modern locking systems are now available.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, homeowners should consider installing double glazing as it can save around £135 a year on energy bills.
