A man has been jailed for ordering firebomb attacks on two police officers' homes, but double glazing prevented one of the houses from being damaged.A police officer's home was protected by double glazing when a firebomb thrown at the house failed to break the glass, a court heard.Wayne Taylor, 42, of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, has been jailed for 18 years for ordering firebomb attacks on the homes of two police officers.Taylor paid two men to throw petrol-filled milk bottles at the houses of the detectives in revenge for a drug raid on his house.A jury found him guilty of two counts of arson with intent to endanger life. Detective Sergeant Martin Brough and his wife were feeding their newborn baby when two petrol bombs and concrete slabs were thrown at the front of their home. Det Sgt Brough told the court: "I was horrified that night, absolutely terrified ... that someone should firebomb my home ... I was so frightened." Double glazing is more difficult to break than the glass in ordinary windows and, according to Windowinfo.co.uk, 75 per cent of burglars' entry is gained by forcing a window vent or breaking the glass. It advises installing double glazing, particularly to the rear or side of the property as these windows are at a higher risk of attack.Written by James Hall.
