Double glazing makes properties 'more attractive' to potential buyers

Double glazing makes properties 'more attractive' to potential buyersPeople looking to buy properties are more attracted to those that have double glazing and other energy-efficient features, according to a property expert.People looking to sell their houses in the future should consider installing double glazing as buyers are increasingly seeking energy-efficient homes, according to a property expert.

In a piece for the Evening Herald, Naoimh Tuohy, who is trained as an interior designer, wrote that properties that rank highly in Building Energy Rating (BER) assessments are more attractive to potential buyers or renters.

She explained that there are simple ways of boosting a home's energy efficiency, such as switching all light bulbs to efficient options. Low-energy bulbs use 80 per cent less electricity and can last up to 15 times longer than standard bulbs, according to Ms Tuohy.

"If your windows are single-glazed, then it would prudent to change them to double or even triple-glazed if the budget can take it," she continued.

Double glazing windows are also a good investment for homeowners who are not looking to sell but want to reduce their energy bills, according to Which?.

The consumer champion said that such energy-saving features can pay for themselves in around six years, due to the amount saved on heating bills.
