Double glazing is not the only technology that can cut carbon emissions

Double glazing is not the only technology that can cut carbon emissionsIt is well known that double glazing can cut carbon emissions, but businesses are unaware of the other technologies that are available for this purpose. While businesses may be aware that double glazing can cut carbon emissions, they are unaware of other technologies that can do so, according to market research company IDC.

The company said that, if used intensively, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) could cut carbon emissions by 25 per cent compared to emissions in 2006.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, double glazing can cut the average home's carbon emissions by 720kg a year.

Chris Ingle, associate vice president of consulting at IDC, said that these technologies are "production ready but not widely adopted" so IT companies and service providers "need to come together" to help businesses identify what carbon emission-reducing technology is available in their sector.

He added that there are a variety of products available and that IDC's research is aimed at increasing awareness and use of these so that businesses can help to meet the government's low 2020 CO2 targets.
