Double glazing, insulation 'reduce heating need'

Kirklees residents are benefitting from free home insulation.A pensioner with double glazing has benefited from a local council free insulation scheme.Installing double glazing and insulation means you will "rarely have to have the heating on", according to a pensioner who recently benefited from a local free insulation scheme.

Pauline Pedley, 72, a retired teacher from the village of Mirfield, near Huddersfield, had cavity wall insulation and loft insulation installed for free through the Kirklees Warm Zone scheme.

Kirklees Warm Zone is one of the biggest and most comprehensive programmes to tackle domestic energy efficiency and climate change in the UK.

Every home in Kirklees which is suitable for loft and cavity wall insulation is eligible to receive this work for free.

Ms Pedley told the Times: "It was a very quick and clean process ... and it's made such a difference.

"With the insulation and my double-glazing, I rarely have to have the heating on."

Warm Zone is being offered to every Kirklees resident, giving them the opportunity to make their home warmer and more comfortable, contribute to reducing energy consumption and make a positive impact on the environment.

The programme has support of over £20 million confirmed over a three-year period.
