Double glazing helps retirement home win security award

Double glazing has helped a retirement home to win a security award A retirement home has won a Secured by Design Award due to its many security features, including double glazing windows.

Double glazing windows were among a number of features that helped the Montes Court development in Coventry to win a prestigious Secured by Design Award.

Secured by Design is the official police flagship initiative supporting the principles of reducing crime through increasing security features in the design of buildings.

Retirement specialist McCarthy & Stone's development celebrated the award by inviting West Midlands Police to talk to people about keeping their properties safe, an article in the property section of easier.com reports.

The homes in the development are designed to be as secure as possible and include a security entrance system, an intruder alarm, double glazing and key-operated window locks.

Robin Pike, regional sales and marketing director, told the website: "We are delighted to win this special award, demonstrating our commitment to building homes which significantly reduce the risks and fear of crime."

He went on to say homes with security features not only give owners piece of mind, but can also reduce insurance premiums.

As well as reducing these premiums, double glazing can save homeowners money elsewhere - they can reduce heating bills by around £135 a year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
