Double glazing for Birmingham council houses

Double glazing is to be fitted in Birmingham council houses Birmingham City Council is fitting double glazing in all of its council houses.Birmingham City Council is on target to fit all of its properties with double glazing, it has been reported.

The energy efficiency of the houses has been improved through the addition of the new windows.

According to the Birmingham Mail, the council was also asked to build 600 new affordable homes last year and, with the social housing sector, has vastly exceeded this, building 975, all with double glazing.

Earlier this week the council published the Birmingham Declaration on Climate Change, underlining the city's ambition to improve sustainability.

The declaration states that, by 2015, an electric car charging infrastructure will be instated and there will be at least 500 electric cars on the city's roads.

Ten per cent of homes in the city will be linked to district heating systems and will have retrofit insulation by 2015.

Double glazing and insulation are both good for reducing heat loss and, therefore, cutting energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions.
