Double glazing fitted in 114 Harrow homes

Insulation has been fitted in 114 homes in Harrow.More than 100 homes in Harrow have been fitted with double glazing and insulation.Over 100 homes have been fitted with insulation, double glazing and solar panels thanks to a £3 million scheme by Brent Housing Partnership.

The 114 homes in the Brentfield estate, Harrow, have also been fitted with roof tiles that absorb carbon monoxide, the London Evening Standard reported.

Harrow Council is now looking into a scheme that aims to turn cigarette butts into roof insulation.

Discarded butts would be collected, sterilised so that all of the toxins were removed, broken down and then compacted to form insulation, according to the newspaper.

Speaking to the newspaper, Susan Hall, Harrow's portfolio holder for the environment, said: "Cigarette butts are unsightly and add to our landfill costs. Harrow is the second best recycler in London with a rate of 44 per cent, but any cost-efficient technology that drives that rate up is worth considering."

According to the Energy Saving Trust, loft insulation and double glazing are both effective ways to save energy and money while also reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
