Reading-based Abbey Windows has decided to raise £25,000 for good causes this year with the help of its 18 staff, the Bracknell Forest Standard reports.

Speaking to the newspaper, proprietor Andrew Young said: "We have decided to celebrate by giving something back to the community which has supported us."

He went on to say that it was one of the firm's members of staff who suggested using the 25 years as a "landmark to help some needy causes".

The money raised will be split between four charities: The British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, The Stroke Association and the Royal British Legion.

Abbey Windows is not a regional company and just serves Reading.

"We've never been interested in taking over the world of double glazing," said Mr Young.

Those outside of this area can get cheap UPVC windows by looking online at double glazing quotes and, according to the Energy Saving Trust, installing such windows can save around £135 a year in heating bills.
