Double glazing could save property buyers 'thousands'The benefits of double glazing have been highlighted by new plans being considered by the government.The importance of having double glazing installed at a property has been highlighted by new plans which the government might bring in.

It could see homebuyers having to pay thousands of pounds in stamp duty if the new abode that they are looking at purchasing is not energy-efficient.

Proposals would be introduced alongside the government's Green Deal, which would look to install cheap double glazing on around 14 million homes to cut their fuel bills.

"There are many incentives that we are considering to tackle home efficiency. No final decision has been made, but we are considering it," said a spokesman for the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

According to the Daily Mail, under one scenario, people who buy a poorly insulated property would have to pay an extra 0.5 per cent tax on top of normal stamp duty.
