Gordon Miller, founder of property website WhatGreenHome.com, claims that the addition of double glazing can have a positive effect on the energy efficiency levels of a home.

He cited recent claims by Andrew Leech from the National Home Improvement Council, who claimed that double glazing is a "key aspect" in reducing the carbon emissions of a property.

Mr Miller said: "Retrofitting our homes to be more energy efficient on a huge scale has to begin much sooner rather than later.

"This includes adding double glazing to your homes, with widespread acknowledgement that this measure improves energy efficiency of the home."

A recent report by the Public Accounts Committee found that people who have claimed funding for insulation or double glazing through the government's Warm Front scheme are satisfied with the service.
