Double glazing brings "unique benefits" to buildings

Double glazing brings Windows, such as those made out of cheap double glazing, can bring a number of "unique benefits" to a building, an architectural glass manufacturer has claimed.Windows, which could include cheap double glazing, bring "unique benefits" to areas that are dense in tall buildings and skyscrapers, according to an architectural glass manufacturer.

Glass has become a building material in its own right, the Cooperator reports, with many different tints, finishes and treatments available to suit almost every kind of building design.

Speaking to the newspaper, Steven Jayson, owner of SA Bendheim, a New Jersey-based glass manufacturer, explained that there is a difference between architectural glass and window glass that can be bought in a hardware or DIY store.

"The most important difference is that it is almost always double-glazed - two pieces of glass are glued together with sealant but kept about three to four inches apart to create an airtight space," said Douglas Lister, an architect based in New York City.

He went on to say that this airspace can double the insulation provided compared to a conventional single piece of glass.

Last month, glassonweb.com reported that two buildings in Belgium fitted with double glazing had won prestigious awards at the international property trade show MIPIM.
