Bills sent to the leaseholders of houses in an Essex town for improvements, including the installation of double glazing windows, are to be cut, it has been reported.Housing chiefs in a town in Essex have said they will cut the bills sent out to leaseholders for repairs and improvements including the installation of double glazing windows. In a meeting last week, the bills received by 62 leaseholders living on Brentwood's East Ham estate were discussed by MP Eric Pickles and Michael Irvine, chief executive of Newham Homes, the Brentwood Weekly News reports. The bills included improvement work that was done on walls, stairwells and the installation of double glazed windows and ranged from £14,000 to £49,000.Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Pickles said that a lot of things came out of the meeting and that a number of leaseholders are to get revised estimates."Newham will be sending out a clearer breakdown of the costs. Quite a bit is being knocked off," he added.Earlier this week, the Conservatives announced that, if elected next year, they will grant thousands of households across the UK up to £6,500 each to make energy-efficient home improvements, such as fitting double glazing windows.Posted by Daniel Brown.
