Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), has claimed that windows are often "a key aspect" of a property for several reasons.

Among those is the impact that changes can have on the curbside appearance of a house, as well as how the right double glazing may improve the property's energy efficiency.

He added that older people looking to make changes to their homes should certainly look at the latter issue, but also ensure they get expert help when undertaking any renovation work.
