Double glazed 'eco-pod' house extensions developed

Double glazing can cut heat lost through windows by half.A new company called Pod Space has created a collection of double glazed 'pods' to help people to extent their homes.A man from Huddersfield has created a selection of stylish, eco-friendly 'pods' with double glazing, to help people extend their homes.

Ben Lord, 34, an architecture graduate, has launched his new business, Pod Space, which produces the timber-framed pods, priced between £17,000 and £26,000, the Huddersfield Daily Examiner reported.

Built in Cleckheaton, the pods come in three different sizes and are ready-assembled to include heating, electricity and even plumbing.

They are designed to surpass current building regulation energy efficiency ratings to enable comfortable use in any season.

As with the double glazing, the other materials used will reduce energy bills and conserve natural resources.

Double glazing works by trapping air between two panes of glass creating an insulating barrier that reduces heat loss, noise and condensation.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, double glazing can cut heat lost through windows by half, resulting in savings of around £135 a year on the average heating bill.
