WRAP has gained the signatures of six DIY retail giants in an agreement to reduce packaging and waste.Six of the UK's DIY retailers and brands have signed up to a new agreement that aims to reduce both the amount of waste they send to landfill and the packaging they use.Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) gained signatures from Wickes, B&Q, Homebase, Argos, Focus and Henkel, who are agreeing to work together for the first time to achieve a 15 per cent packaging reduction and a 50 per cent reduction in waste-to-landfill by the end of 2012. They will also look at ways of helping consumers to recycle more when carrying out home improvements.WRAP works with local authorities, business and households to prevent waste, increase recycling and develop markets for recycled and sustainable products.Environment minister Dan Norris said: "We need to say goodbye to unnecessary and excess packaging across the board."The Environment Agency aims to protect and improve the environment by providing advice on how to be environmentally friendly and outlining energy efficiency in the home as one of the easiest way for individuals to help the planet.
