DIY is at an 'all-time high', expert says Homeowners looking for kitchen quotes have been told that the number of people taking on DIY projects is at an "all-time high".A home improvement expert has told people looking for kitchen quotes that interest in DIY is at an "all-time high".

Anna-Marie DeSouza, editor of Build It magazine, said that the increased profile of self-made home improvements in the media, with new DIY TV shows, books and celebrities, has helped to make carrying out projects "fashionable and accessible".

She explained: "Now more than ever before, people are enjoying spending their time and money improving their home."

Ms DeSouza added: "The current desire is to transform [homes] into future-proof dwellings that [people] can stay in for a lifetime, if they so wish."

According to a survey released by HSBC last week, British homeowners are more likely to 'mend and make do' than they were 12 months ago.

The research revealed that 48 per cent would look to repair broken laptops, TVs, cookers, washing machines or fridges, while 40 per cent would splash out on a new appliance.
