Disabled woman pleads with council for double glazing

Ms Glass will ahve to wait her turn to get double glazing windows fittedA pensioner has been pleading for some time for her local council to install double glazing to decrease the heat loss from her "flimsily constructed" bungalow.A disabled woman has pleaded for her local council to install double glazing to reduce her heating bills and keep her warm in her "flimsily constructed" bungalow, but to no avail.

Dena Glass, 66, has repeatedly asked St Albans Council, in Hertfordshire, to fit double glazing windows and insulation to make her home and the five other bungalows in the surrounding area warmer and more comfortable to live in, the Herts Advertiser reports.

"These bungalows are flimsily constructed like prefabricated buildings and really quite unsuitable for older people," she told the newspaper.

She went on to explain that some of the walls are only made of plywood so the rooms can get very cold in the winter.

"We have to keep our central heating turned up high," Ms Glass said.

The council said that the programme for installing double glazing into its housing stock has to be prioritised and Ms Glass' bungalow is not at the top of the list.

Installing double glazing into the properties would cut heat loss through windows by half and would, therefore, reduce heating bills, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
