Defra: Most Brits have double glazing

Almost 90 per cent of people surveyed had double glazingThe large majority of people have double glazing and/or loft insulation in their homes, according to a report funded by Defra.A recent government report has shown that 89 per cent of people have at least some double glazing in their homes.

Earlier this year, more than 2,000 face-to-face interviews were conducted and 76 per cent of respondents said they had double glazing on all of their windows with a further five per cent saying that they were contemplating installing double glazing.

The report titled 2009 Public attitudes and behaviours towards the environment was commissioned jointly by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Energy Saving Trust.

It gives a representative picture of what people in England think, and how they behave, across a range of issues relevant to the environment.

Overall there has been a small increase in the proportion of people willing to do things to help the environment with only 47 per cent of respondents saying they would like to do a bit more to help the environment.

However, the number of respondents who said they were environmentally-friendly in most or everything they did has increased significantly from 19 per cent in 2007 to 27 per cent.

Defra has also recently published a report stating that wood, PVC and aluminium-framed windows have a part to play in creating sustainable buildings.
