An incident in Bangor has highlighted the dangers of DIY home improvement.A man from Wales who was attempting to save money by doing his own home improvement has caused massive damage to his property.The DIY disaster occurred in Bangor, where a man was using a blow torch to remove paint as he was working on a renovation project in his semi-detached home.While taking a short break, the sparks which has leapt off his tool and into the roof area of the property, caught fire.Four firefighting appliances were dispatched to the property, which was alight upon their arrival.Huw Roberts, from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said when they arrived "the attic was well ablaze and the flames had come through the roof"."We were concerned about it spreading to the neighbouring house we targeted the neighbouring roof to dampen it down to stop it spreading," he added.Fiona Hodge, assistant editor at DIY Week, recently advised homeowners to know their limits when it comes to home improvement.She advised people to get professional help if it is necessary to both complete the work and avoid any potential accidents occurring.
