Critical need for energy efficiency improvements

The issue of energy efficiency is An expert has claimed it is critical that the energy efficiency of housing in the UK is improved.It is "critical" that more homes in the UK are fitted with energy-saving measures such as UPVC windows, according to an expert.

Gordon Miller, founder of property development website WhatGreenHome.com, has claimed that as 27 per cent of all carbon emissions come from housing, the issue is deeply important one.

He explained that, according to figures, around three-quarters of poor thermal quality homes will still be in use by 2050.

"Retrofitting our homes to be more energy efficient on a huge scale has to begin much sooner rather than later," he added.

The government's UK Low Carbon Transition Plan, which was published in the middle of last month, includes proposals on the creation of a new pay-as-you-save scheme which will see homeowners given funding to boost their efficiency of their properties.
