People who have sought double glazing quotes, had the windows installed but then noticed a crack in the glass should contact a good fenestration surveyor, according to a home improvements expert. Those who notice a crack in a pane of their cheap double glazing windows should get in touch with a good fenestration surveyor, Jeff Howell comments in his property advice column for the Daily Telegraph.Such an expert will examine the glass and will be able to tell if the crack was caused by damage to the edge of the inner pane of laminated glass during manufacture or installation. "A slight nick will spread slowly at first and then accelerate when exposed to the stresses of heat or vibration," Mr Howell explained. He went on to write that reputable cheap double glazing firms will pay for the pane to be replaced but that disreputable companies will often try to "wriggle out of responsibility". Mr Howell recommended that, if this is the case, cheap double glazing owners are covered by the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 and should contact their local authority trading standards officer as they are entitled to a free replacement.Shipley Parish Council recently celebrated the re-opening of its parish room, which has had many energy efficient measures, including cheap double glazing, installed thanks to a £15,500 grant from energy company E.ON's Sustainable Energy Fund.Posted by Laura Rathbone
