Couple tells of new 'super-insulated' homeA couple have told the Guardian how they are planning a number of energy efficient improvements to their home in Lewes, Sussex.One woman has told how she is turning her home in Sussex into a super-insulated and energy efficient bungalow.

Ann Link has told the Guardian how she and her husband plan to transform their Lewes-based property through a series of eco-home improvements.

With the help of a sustainable building designer and an on-site builder, the couple have set insulation and draught-proofing as the first priorities of the project.

There will be external insulation on the walls, "masses of loft" material and a plastic foam added to the existing flat roof.

Speaking about the property, Ms Link said: "There are solid floors, double-glazing and insulated cavity walls, but little other insulation or draught-proofing.

"The big advantages are its southerly aspect and the sunny flat roof of the extension. We are planning and as many solar photovoltaic panels as will fit on the flat roof.," she added.

Recent data released by Lloyds TSB found that consumers in the UK spent £16.6 billion on home improvement and maintenance during the course of 2008.
