A musical couple from south-west London have created their very own sound-proofed practice room in the grounds of their home, complete with cheap double glazing.

Sharon Edgar and her husband Ben are in a cover band and found that they needed more space but didn't want to expense of moving to a bigger property, according to the Times Online.

They therefore decided to build a garden room - a sloped-roofed, cedar-clad box with plenty of soundproofing and cheap double glazing in the form of French windows.

"It's nice to have a space where we can let go. And it looks amazing at night, with downlights on the wood - as though a spaceship has landed in the garden," Mrs Edgar told the newspaper.

The couple christened the room "the pod" and had it installed relatively easily, with no planning permission required.

Having cheap double glazing is also likely to keep the costs down. The British Fenestration Rating Council has said that energy-efficient windows can save up to £470 a year on utility bills.
