A study by npower's Climate Cops revealed that, over the recent cold snap, one in four family arguments were sparked by disputes over the temperature of the house, which could be improved if families installed double glazing.

Of the 2,000 homeowners quizzed, the number one cause for family bust-ups were household chores, including whose turn it was to do the hovering or change the toilet roll.

A spokesman for npower's Climate Cops, the energy company's education programme that encourages kids to think green, said: ''An encouraging 17 per cent of parents have been pressurised into turning down the thermostat by their kids in order to help protect the environment and a quarter are nagged about being more environmentally conscious."

According to the Energy Saving Trust, cheap double glazing cuts heat loss through windows by half, so those who want a warmer home without having to turn the heating up may want to consider seeking UPVC double glazing prices.
