Construction of low emission homes 'to begin shortly'

The new homes will most likely include double glazing windowsThe construction of hundreds of homes, which will have emission-reducing features such as double glazing, will begin soon in four UK eco towns.Construction of 600 new homes, which are likely to have double glazing windows, will begin shortly in four eco towns, the government has announced.

The government has allocated £60 million for the creation of the properties, a third of which will be affordable homes.

Funding will also be used to create greener local transport, education facilities and other existing buildings in the towns.

Housing minister John Healey said that, by 2016, there will be 10,000 new eco homes in Whitehill-Bordon (Hampshire), St Austell (Cornwall), Rackheath (Norfolk) and North West Bicester (Oxfordshire).

"But green living isn't just about homes," he added

"That's why this cash will also help transform local schools and create new transport links and energy sources."

He said that, by the time the towns are completed, green living will be a "way of life" for the communities.

Home services comparison website Local Quoter recently advised homeowners to consider installing double glazing windows as they will not only improve the eco-friendly status of their properties, but they will notice an immediate reduction in their household bills.
