The Tory party has announced that, if elected next year, it will grant thousands of pounds to householders across the UK to make energy efficient improvements to their homes, such as the addition of double glazing windows. The Conservative Party has outlined plans for a scheme to offer grants to homeowners to make energy efficiency improvements, such as adding double glazing windows. If the party is elected next year, it has promised that the home energy grant proposal will be piloted by 14 local councils and the Mayor of London. It would give each household across the UK the right to improve the energy efficiency of their homes up to the value of £6,500. Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), said that any scheme that encourages homeowners to think about energy efficient improvements, such as double glazing windows, is "very worthwhile"."Over the next 20 to 30 years we have just got to bring houses up to a required standard of energy efficiency or else it is all doom and gloom," he said.Mr Leech added that many homeowners are reluctant to make the necessary changes and, instead, focus on other home improvements, such as new kitchens or new bathrooms.Posted by James Hall.
