Conservationists helping homeowners to save cash

New homeA team of environmental consultants have begun helping individuals and businesses across South Yorkshire to save money.

Staff at the South Yorkshire Energy Centre offer consultancy services to householders, local authorities, community groups and businesses, advising them how to make their properties more energy efficient.

Speaking to Sheffield’s The Star newspaper, South Yorkshire Energy Centre spokesman, Gareth Burt, said there are a vast number of things people can do to cut their energy bills, from fitting energy saving light bulbs to installing cavity wall insulation.

Mr Burt said draughts are a big problem for many homeowners.

He said: "Lots of houses have a draught, which makes a room feel much colder and allows the heat to escape, so putting draught protection on doors is a really cheap way of keeping the heat in."

For a more permanent fix, people can turn to double glazing companies. By investing in energy saving windows it is possible to considerably reduce energy bills by preventing heat from escaping from a property.
