'Choose practical styling for family kitchen quotes', buyers told Homeowners should avoid functional-looking kitchen quotes designs in favour of practical family solutions, according to a commentator.Contemporary kitchen quotes design is not always practical for a family home, an interior design commentator has said.

Writing for Boston.com, Arrol Gellner said that reflecting the look of commercial kitchens, with stainless steel and restaurant-style appliances, can often create difficulties for everyday use and maintenance within private homes.

Mr Gellner explained: "To begin with, professional kitchens are designed on the presumption of having a full-time staff to operate and maintain them ... Professional kitchens also have the luxury of sprawling over large amounts of floor space. Neither of these attributes applies to the average home kitchen."

The commentator suggested that homeowners should draw their tentative layouts when seeking kitchen quotes and mentally run-through the daily meal tasks that the space will be used for, to assess whether it will be practical.

Last week, Gina Davidson told Edinburgh Evening News readers that 2011's kitchen quotes could see a return to more "cautious" styling.
