Cheap patio door installation: DIY projects 'sometimes lead to injuries'

Injuries are possible from large DIY projectsLarge DIY projects can sometimes lead to injuries, homeowners have been warned.A growing number of DIY lovers are reporting injuries they have sustained during projects around the house, new figures have shown, which could concern those installing a cheap patio door.

Research by the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) has found that one in three DIYers have accidentally hit themselves with a hammer while one in seven have given themselves an electric shock.

One in three have accidentally coated their belongings in paint, while ten per cent have taken a fall from a ladder.

David Pollock, ECA Group chief executive, emphasised the fact that minor jobs are fine to do one's self but that bigger projects such as installing double glazing should be done by a professional.

He said: "Small DIY jobs are fine to attempt yourself, but for bigger jobs, especially those which involve electricity or a skill that you are not familiar with, you should really call in a professional."

Men who take part in DIY are actually more attractive to women (even if they do injure themselves more often), new research from Bosch has found.
