Cheap double glazing 'should be chosen over a holiday'Home improvements should be prioritised, according to an expert.Britain's property owners have been told that they should be prioritising home improvements, such as cheap double glazing, over taking a summer holiday.

Andrew Leech, director at the NHIC, said that some people are delaying doing work to their home in order to spend money on foreign trips, however, improvements are more essential.

"People are thinking about going away on holiday and not spending as much money on DIY improvements, but that is rather a negative approach because really home improvements should take priority over holidays," he stated.

Mr Leech went on to say that DIY sales dipped during the start of the summer as people might be worried about rising household costs, while the good weather could have made others concentrate more on their gardens.

According to research from Santander Mortgages, first-time buyers spend around £3,800 on kitting out their new home, which is the equivalent to three per cent of the average national property price.
