Consumers will have to give their homes a 'green makeover'.The need for cheap double glazing has been highlighted by the news that plans to tackle climate change will add £277 to annual household fuel bills.Energy and climate change minister Chris Huhne said that electricity and gas prices could soar to pay for the massive expansion of wind farms across the UK, according to the Daily Mail.Mr Huhne also said that increases in fuel bills would be offset by government plans to improve the energy efficiency of millions of homes, through methods including cheap double glazing."The government is taking welcome steps to ensure the UK has a secure, lower carbon, energy supply. Measures to help customers, such as using smart meters to cut energy use and energy-efficiency schemes to stop homes leaking heat, will benefit many," said Audrey Gallagher, head of energy policy at Consumer Foods.Recently, City AM said that while there is a long way to go before Britain becomes a low-carbon economy, some developers are committed to building homes which will have a small impact on the environment.Posted by Daniel Brown
