Cheap double glazing 'can save over £10k'Those who have ruled out cheap double glazing due to the cost of installation may want to reconsider, as these windows can save a household over £10,000 in fuel bills, according to a glazing company.Upgrading single glazed windows to cheap double glazing can save a household more than £10,000 in fuel bills over the lifetime of the windows, an expert has claimed.

Julia Berkin, marketing communications manager at Pilkington, said that the cold weather that British homeowners experienced over the past few month has got them thinking about how they could make their homes warmer.

"This winter has certainly led more people to re-evaluate the energy efficiency of their homes and it's encouraging to see that, despite the recent recession, people are continuing to place sustainable living high on their agenda," she added.

The glazing company explained that new windows are a good investment, as the cut heat loss while still allowing heat from the sun to enter buildings, creating a warmer environment.

Some double glazing also includes self-cleaning technology that has a special coating, which reacts with sunlight to break down organic dirt.

Earlier this week, npower revealed that homeowners who install solar panels under the government's new feed-in tariffs could earn as much as £960 a year for the energy they produce.
