Upgrading single glazed windows to cheap double glazing can save a household more than £10,000 in fuel bills over the lifetime of the windows, an expert has claimed.

Julia Berkin, marketing communications manager at Pilkington, said that the cold weather that British homeowners experienced over the past few month has got them thinking about how they could make their homes warmer.

"This winter has certainly led more people to re-evaluate the energy efficiency of their homes and it's encouraging to see that, despite the recent recession, people are continuing to place sustainable living high on their agenda," she added.
