Cavity wall insulation 'a good budget home improvement'

Budget home improvementsAn expert has advised how people can improve their homes without spending large amounts of money.Property owners looking to make home improvements on a budget should consider loft or cavity wall insulation, according to one expert.

Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, cited recent research by Sainsbury's Home Insurance, which found the number of people planning to put extensions on their property decreased by 39 per cent in the last year.

The expert added that smaller-scale home improvements could be considered if people "can't afford to have a full extension".

He stated: "Look at the insulation of their homes - loft insulation, cavity wall insulation. There are other ways of increasing the 'size' of your house without going to a full scale extension, like reorganizing the interior of your home."

Another home improvement people could consider is adding an en suite bathroom if they have a big bedroom, said Mr Leech.

The recent Halifax Home Improvement Survey found that an average extension costs £19,922 but could add £25,590 to the value of a property.
