The 73-year-old woman was set to use £600 of cash that was stolen during the incident to buy some new windows, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.

However, the double glazing firm learnt of her plight and chose to provide her with the products as a gift.

Steve Birmingham, managing director of SafeStyle Windows, told the newspaper: "Anyone who's had the unfortunate experience of having their home broken into knows how intimidated and scared you can end up feeling in your own home.

"With this in mind, we felt it was right to replace this lady's plain glass windows with our secure UPVC double-glazing free of charge."

Safestyle UK was established in 1992 and has provided over £100 million of windows and doors to properties.
