New research has found that people in the UK are attempting to save money by doing potentially dangerous electrical DIY jobs.Brits have been carrying out high-risk home DIY improvements in order to save money, new research has found.A study by Sainsbury's Home Insurance found that 65 per cent of British adults have done DIY in the last 12 months.The study also found that 11 per cent of people have carried out high-risk jobs including electrical work in kitchens bathrooms and gardens.A large number of jobs requiring Building Control notifications have also been attempted, something that should not be done by anyone bar an experienced home improvement professional.Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's Home Insurance Manager, said people should not ruin the joy of DIY "by exposing yourself to calamity".She added: "Check you have good accidental damage cover and check that your insurer will cover you whilst you undertake the work, and whatever you do, make sure you use a registered electrician to carry out any major electrical works."A recent study by Wilkinson found that 90 per cent of adults in the UK do not rate their DIY skills, with one in ten describing their abilities as "extremely poor".
